Protection against extreme temperatures

Feuerfester Tresor Duoforce T2-M65, umgeben von lodernden Flammen, demonstriert seine Feuerbeständigkeit nach dem Standard NT Fire 017 - 90 Papier.

The Chubbsafes DuoForce-T2 M-65 protects your important documents from the extreme temperatures that can occur during a fire for 60 minutes against charring.

All of our safes also protect their contents against the ingress of fire-fighting water.

Fireproof safes are specially designed security cabinets designed to protect their contents from high temperatures and direct flame exposure. Unlike conventional safes, which are primarily secured against burglary and theft, fireproof safes offer additional protection against the destructive effects of fire. They are made of fire-resistant materials and often feature insulation layers that reduce heat transfer.

Our safes also protect against firefighting water.

Our safes are designed to prevent firefighting water from penetrating and damaging the contents. This is especially important because water used to fight fires can be just as destructive as the fire itself. By using special seals and water-resistant materials, we ensure that your valuables remain intact even under extreme conditions.

Safe Guide Our safes

How are fireproof safes tested?

Fireproof safes undergo a series of rigorous tests to ensure they meet the high standards for protection against extreme temperatures and direct flame exposure. Testing procedures vary depending on the standard and classification, but typically include the following steps:

Ein verlassenes, brandgeschädigtes Gebäude mit verkohlten Balken, Schutt und einem grossen, feuerfesten Wertschutzschrank Chubbsafes Duoforce T2-M1090 inmitten der Zerstörung.

The Chubbsafes Duoforce T2-M1090 remains intact even in a completely destroyed building – your ultimate protection against fire and destruction.

Fire Resistance Test

Preparation: The safe is filled with typical contents it is intended to protect in real-life use, such as paper documents, electronic media, or data storage devices.

Temperature Elevation: The safe is placed in a special oven heated to a specified temperature required for the respective test. Temperatures can reach well over 1000 degrees Celsius.

Holding Time: The safe remains in the oven for a specified period of time to test its fire resistance. This duration corresponds to the safe’s classification, e.g., 30, 60, or 90 minutes.

Temperature Monitoring: During the test, temperatures inside the safe are continuously monitored to ensure they do not exceed the critical limit at which the contents could be damaged. For example, paper must not be heated above 177 degrees Celsius, and data storage devices must remain below 50 degrees Celsius.

Cooling: After the fire test, the safe is cooled and the integrity of the contents is checked to determine if they have remained undamaged.

Impact and Drop Test

Drop test: To test the structural integrity of the safe, it is dropped from a certain height onto a hard surface. This simulates the conditions of a building collapse during a fire.

Temperature increase after drop: After the drop, the safe is reheated to ensure that the fire-resistant materials and structure continue to provide protection even after impact.

Humidity Test

Steam Test: To test whether the safe remains sealed even in environments with high humidity or steam, it is additionally exposed to steam.

Condensation Test: The safe is cooled to check whether moisture condenses inside, which could damage the contents.

Fire protection classes - fire protection up to 90 minutes

The quality and effectiveness of a fireproof safe is often determined by its fire rating. These ratings indicate how long the safe can protect its contents from fire. Here are some of the most common fire ratings:

Ein Wertschutzschrank Chubbsafes Senator M-65 steht offen in Flammen und ist von dichtem Rauch umgeben. Die Tür des Safes ist leicht geöffnet und gibt den Blick auf Ordner und Dokumente im Inneren frei.

The Chubbsafes Senator M-65 protects your important documents from the extreme temperatures that can occur during a fire for 30 minutes against charring.

DIN 4102

This standard specifies the fire resistance of building materials and components and serves as a general standard for fire-resistant constructions. It is often used as a basis for the design of fireproof safes because it defines the basic requirements for the fire resistance of materials.

EN 15659

This European standard defines the requirements for safes designed to protect documents and paper from fire. Safes that comply with this standard offer 30 or 60 minutes of protection, depending on the model. This standard is particularly important for the secure storage of documents in offices and private homes.

LFS 30P

Safes with this classification protect paper documents from fire and high temperatures for at least 30 minutes. This class is ideal for basic protection of important documents such as contracts, certificates, and personal documents.

NT Fire 017 – 90 Paper

This classification guarantees that the safe protects paper documents from the effects of a fire for at least 90 minutes. This high protection rating is particularly suitable for companies and government agencies that need to securely store large quantities of important documents for the long term.

NT Fire 017 – 60 Diskette

Safes in this class are specifically designed to protect sensitive data storage devices such as hard drives, USB flash drives, SSDs, memory cards, and other electronic media from fire for at least 60 minutes. These safes are ideal for IT departments and companies that rely on the integrity of their digital data.
